Careers education and guidance

Careers Education and Guidance will help you to make choices about your continuing education, training and career paths. The Post-16 provision aims to build upon your existing skills, to enable you to manage the transition to new roles and situations.

The careers library

The Careers Library is open to all years 12 and 13 students. The Careers Co-ordinator will be available during non-contact time to offer you individual on-going support. The School’s Careers Library contains a comprehensive range of printed material on Higher Education, Further Education and specific careers, as well as computer assisted Careers/Higher Education packages on the computer network.

Work-related activities

Year 12 students will have work experience for one week, while Year 13 will participate in a Work Shadowing placement for two days. This placement will provide an opportunity to shadow a management role.

Monitoring studies

Sixth Form students are expected to participate in Action Planning sessions with form tutors during review week, in order to set targets which will cover personal and social issues. Course tutors will negotiate academic targets with you in class. This will encourage you to aim high and to improve your grades. Your Sixth Form Review will report on your progress, along with your course grades every term.

Personal, social and spiritual education

All students follow this modular course throughout their time in the sixth form. The course provides an opportunity to develop a range of personal and social skills essential to the young adult.

Personal, Social and Spiritual Education involves activities which include current affairs, careers, moral issues, citizenship including an entitlement to the Medway RE syllabus course. Some of the activities undertaken are linked to Key Skills and lead to the development of attributes that help in future plans.
