How to apply for a place in Year 7
The following information relates to requests for Admission to Year 7 in September 2007.
The Thomas Aveling School, as a Foundation Technology College, is able to take students without reference to ability or aptitude. You may still apply for a place, whether or not your child sits the selection tests.
- Fill in the Medway Common Application Form provided by the Local Authority (LA). The Thomas Aveling School will appear in the list of schools, with all the other schools in the area. We do not have a separate application form.
- The dates for the 2006 Open Sessions at The Thomas Aveling School are:
Thursday 5th October 2006 - 7.00 - 9.00 pm
Monday 9th October 2006 - 9.00 - 10.30 am
Tuesday 10th October 2006 - 9.00 - 10.30 am
- Make sure the Application form is sent back to your child’s primary school by 20th October 2006.
- In the first instance, the LA will forward to this school a list of applicant’s names whose parents have placed The Thomas Aveling School as an equal preference. The Governing Body Admissions Authority (GBAA) has an over-riding duty to comply with parent’s requests and will carefully consider every application received. In an effort to provide parents with clear and transparent guidance with regard to the admissions process, your attention is drawn to Appendix 1 attached, which clarifies and explains important information relating to applications.
We have places for 180 students in each year group. If we receive more than 180 applications for places, then the following criteria will be applied:
- Children in public care
- Current family association, i.e. a sibling in the school at the time of allocation, living in the same household;.
- Nearness to The Thomas Aveling School.
Letters notifying parents as to whether their child has a place will be posted on 1st March 2007.
* A detailed explanation of the above criteria is contained in Appendix 1.
