Young Carers are amazing children/teenagers from 5 to 18 who look after members of their family that are ill or disabled.
Not everybody is a young carer just because they have an ill or disabled member of family. Young Carers have to carry out adult jobs around the house that are usually expected of an adult.
At Thomas Aveling School we recognise the work/lifestyle of our Young Carers and run weekly lunch clubs on Thursdays in Woodies. Here the Young Carers meet and support each other informally and develop friendships.
The Young Carers also carry out fund raising activities which finance outings. Last year we went to a pantomime in December and visited Dreamland and Margate in term 6.
Thomas Aveling also work very closely with Medway Youth Trust and Carers First who also offer support to Young Carers and their families outside school hours and during holidays.
