Rising year 7 students attended two weeks of transitional school between 26th July and 6th August. The Olympic themed Summer School was an opportunity for pupils to get a flavour of life at Thomas Aveling before embarking on their journey with us in September. With a variety of subjects on offer, students created Olympic mascots in Art, baked protein bars in Food Technology, performed an opening ceremony in Dance and experimented with the Olympic colours in Science. Mathematics and English was a fundamental focus of learning, setting the students up for their important Key Stage Three core subjects. On the final day students challenged themselves in Thomas Aveling’s Summer School Olympics.
Now the year 7s have started their full timetable at Thomas Aveling, many of them have commented on how Summer School eased their nerves on the first day and enabled a smooth transition to the school. It was great to see our new students working hard and having fun, despite lots of them coming from different schools.
