A Level Results 2021
This morning students at Thomas Aveling received their much-anticipated A level and BTEC results. In what has been a very disrupted 2-year course for the students, their hard work and the hard work of the staff has paid off with great results being achieved.
This year grades were awarded as Teacher Assessed Grades, this allowed the grade to be given based on the 2 years’ worth of work completed rather than a 2 hour exam, a very fair system which meant that children got what they deserved. Those who worked hard, took their teachers’ advice and met deadlines did really well – with many gaining top grades. Unlike last year when an estimate was given, this year the grades were based on work completed, this work was then moderated and assessed against previous year standards – so the students really did achieve the grades they were awarded. We are delighted that many are off to University in September to start their next chapter of their lives and others are starting apprenticeships and entering the world of work, they go very well prepared for these next steps. Paul Jackson, Head Teacher said “I am exceptionally proud of the students this year, not only for the grades they achieved but also the way they went about their studies. They have shown great resilience and determination throughout the very disrupted course and today had the reward. I would also like to thank my amazingly hard working staff who have supported and taught the students, in the end doing the job of exam boards as well as their own job. I know they sweated over the grades for hours to make sure they were accurate – they did a marvellous job. I really hope the coming year is a little more settled for all concerned”.
