Roald Dahl Day Celebrations 2017
The Roald Dahl celebrations started with staff arriving in school dressed as their favourite Roald Dahl character for the day! During form time students were given Roald Dahl party activities for all to enjoy followed by a mass ticket hunt around school to find 50 Golden Tickets throughout the day!
Break time was a little different as the school became similar to the famous ticket hunt scene from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory! Students searched high and low to find their own Golden Ticket which they could exchange in the library for a prize! Over 50 tickets were found and prizes claimed!
At lunchtime nominated students were invited to a Charlie and The Chocolate Factory themed lunch. Quiz teams were made up of 5 students from our four houses. The winning house Victory, received a copy of the new Roald Dahl book, Billy and the Minpins for each team member as well as house points.
During period 5 selected students took part in the Puffin Live Virtual show, which saw Quentin Blake discussing the illustrations for the book Billy and the Minpins (the only Dahl book Blake didn't originally illustrate when it was first published in 1991) along with discussions from author Colin Furze and Managing Director of the Roald Dahl Museum Steve Gardam. The students were able to ask questions live to the show through Twitter.
As the celebrations drew to a close Mr Edwards (dressed as the BFG) was crowned Best Dressed Teacher and the winning house for the day was Resolute!
Mrs Wybourn, English Teacher and Joint Literacy Co-Ordinator said “Roald Dahl Day 2017 was a huge success and as a school we all came together to celebrate one of the world’s greatest children’s authors. All of us, staff and students, have grown up with the influence of Dahl’s books and Roald Dahl Day was about us celebrating those memories together! A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all and the 50 Golden Ticket Prize Winners thoroughly enjoyed their sweets!”
