Why stay at school?

The main reason for you continuing in education is undoubtedly to gain more qualifications. The Sixth Form affords the opportunity to explore new avenues of study and new opportunities.

After one year in the Sixth Form you may go into employment, where training is included and valued for personal and career development. You may use the year to fill a gap until you begin specific training, or to improve your grades in order to continue at school for advanced courses. The three-year Sixth has become a popular route for many students who need an extra year to gain the required grades for advanced courses.

You may continue your studies at 17+ or 18+ by pursuing vocational and specialised courses at a college or gain a place at a college of Art and Design or enter university.

After completing courses in the Sixth Form, you will find that you have increased in maturity and improved your qualifications, becoming, in the process, a more attractive candidate for employment.

You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own studies. Support is available from subject teachers, form tutors and the Director of Sixth Form Studies about individual concerns as needed.

The Sixth Form Review provides an opportunity for subject teachers to comment on your progress, to agree your needs and how to meet them. Form tutors discuss Subject Reviews with you, consider your personal programmes of study and prepare an agreed Action Plan where this is appropriate. A Sixth Form Review is then sent home to your parents every six weeks to keep them informed about your progress.
