The Rochester and Walderslade Partnership - Opportunities to take a course in another school or college

In addition to the sixth form courses that are available to you at this school you can also choose to take one of your courses in another school or college.

The Thomas Aveling School is working closely with four local secondary schools (Greenacre School, The Rochester Grammar School, Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School and Walderslade School for Girls and with Mid Kent College, in the Rochester and Walderslade Partnership. The main purpose of this Partnership is to give students a wider choice of academic and vocational sixth form courses than any individual school can offer.

All students in the Partnership can choose one subject from a range of courses that are not offered by their "home" school. Where it is necessary, you will be given free transport between your home school and your "host" school or college.

This year around 100 Rochester and Walderslade students are taking advantage of these opportunities. Students say the benefits include having a wider choice of courses, getting experience of a different teaching style and environment, improved self-confidence and independence, and an opportunity to make new friends.

The courses available in 2008/2009 through these arrangements are:

  • AS/A Level: Applied Business, Biology, Chemistry, Dance, Environmental Science, French, Health and Social Care (applied), History, Maths, Music, Product Design, Textiles
  • Animal Management (National Award), Sport (National Award), Travel and Tourism (BTEC Award)
  • City and Guilds: Catering Level 2
  • 'Galileo' flight booking system certificate

You will find details of each of these courses in the prospectus. Representatives from other Partnership schools and the College will be available at the sixth form open evening to answer any questions you may have.

To be sure of a place on one of these courses you will need to make your choice by 23rd May 2008 at the latest. Choices expressed after that date will be accommodated wherever possible, but places cannot be guaranteed.

Students who decide to take a course outside their home school can be sure of a warm welcome, high quality teaching, full use of study facilities and continuing support and guidance.
