The Science Department aims to prepare you for living and working in an adult society either immediately or after further education. Science plays an important part in our everyday lives and an understanding of the way in which our world works allows us to make informed judgements that affect us and the world we live in.

We aim to:

• Present you with opportunities to explore and question your environment, be it physical, chemical or biological, through discussion and experimentation.
• Encourage you to recognise the moral and spiritual dimensions of scientific developments and their application within society and to the environment.
• Motivate you by providing you with a range of varied and relevant activities.
• Promote positive role models in terms of race, gender, class, religion and cultural background.
• Enable you to use and apply your scientific skills in novel and practical ways.
