Welcome from the Head Teacher
We would like to welcome you to the Thomas Aveling School website, which we hope you will find informative and helpful, whether you are a prospective student or parent looking to learn more about us, or if you are already part of our school community.
The Thomas Aveling School is an 11-19 co-educational non-selective secondary school, serving our community in Rochester. The school is a converter academy (having gained this status in September 2011) previously being a Technology College and Training School. For us, a truly successful education means being the very best that you can be and we are proud of every pupil’s achievements and progress throughout their school years.
The school sits in a large expanse of land with playing fields, astro courts and multi-play facilities amongst its resources. We have speciaslist teaching areas for Science, Design Technology, Art and Sport in addition to our wonderful Performing Arts centre which includes a full Dance and separate Drama studio.
Values and Ethos
As joint lead school of FPTA Academies we have adopted the 4 excellennces of Academic, Community, Appearance and Environment. We believe that all involved in Thomas Aveling work and achieve best when happy; students are given considerable say in their education for example choosing their option subjects in Year 8, choosing extra-curricular activities early in Year 7 and having the chance to take part in the student council. We have high expectations of all of our students and considerabel work goes into raising aspirations of all - aiming high in everything we do.
We have the very highest expectations of all within Thomas Aveling and work closely with parents to maximise achievement and to develop young people into caring, successful adults. We are very proud that when students leave us aged 18 (or 16 in the minority of cases) that they often go onto further study at University, specialist colleges or high quality careers in anumber of areas. Our students are successful due to the talent and tenacity of the staff at Thomas Aveling raising the students' aspirations and expectations and never letting them settle for being alright.
I hope you find the website interesting and informative but this only touches the surface of what we do. Please come and visit us at one of our open events to find out more.
