Welcome to our website. The Thomas Aveling School is an 11-19 co-educational non-selective secondary school serving our community in Rochester, Kent. We are a converter academy (having gained this status in September 2011) having previously been a Technology Collegeand Training School.  On 1st September 2015 our academy trust merged with The Fort Pitt Academy Trust to form a new trust of 4 schools, 1 grammar school, 2 high schools and a junior school.  This merger will enhance still further the opportunities and support we can offer students in all of these schools.

We aim to create a culture of high expectations and success for all students and staff.
Our GCSE results have improved dramatically over the last few years with 58% gaining 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths in 2015 – a record for the school whilst inclusive strategies have ensured that 100% of all students gained at least 5 pass grades.  A level results have risen equally impressively with our average grade being a C and 100% pass rate being attained..

As well as supporting students of all abilities to make outstanding academic progress Thomas Aveling provides an excellent all round education valuing Music, Drama, Sport and Art highly with high quality facilities .

We work in collaboration with a wide range of partners. We are a Leadership Development School for the National College and work with other schools to help raise standards.

We are a leading member of Kent and Medway Training and along with over 20 other schools train up to 100 new teachers each year.  We are also a key partner of our 2 local teaching schools – leading on CPD provision for these organisations.

We have a vibrant, inclusive and successful sixth form of 180 students with many young people joining Thomas Aveling at 16 from local secondary schools. We offer advanced courses in both Academic and Vocational courses and have a good track record in enabling students to access Further and Higher Education.

We are delighted to have been designated a Good School by Ofsted in January 2012 achieving good grades in all categories. Some quotes from Ofsted include:
