Information

The Thomas Aveling School is an 11-19 co-educational non-selective secondary school serving our community in Rochester, Kent. We are a converter academy (having gained this status in September 2011) having previously been a Technology College and Training School.  On 1st September 2015 our academy trust merged with The Fort Pitt Academy Trust to form a new trust of 5 schools, 1 grammar school, 2 high schools and 2 junior schools.  This merger will enhance still further the opportunities and support we can offer students in all of these schools.

We aim to create a culture of high expectations and success for all students and staff.
In the last 3 years our progress, as measured by the Government defined Progress 8 score, places us as one of the highest performing high schools in Medway and in the top 10 across the whole of Kent.    Our Academic and Vocational offer to post 16 students is a wide one and students are successful in their choices, over 98% of grades have been pass grades each year and many years has reached 100% pass rate and the average grade has risen significantly allowing students to choose high performing, highly competitive Russell Group universities or top apprenticeships.

As well as supporting students of all abilities to make outstanding academic progress Thomas Aveling provides an excellent all round education valuing Music, Drama, Sport and Art highly with high quality facilities.  The standard of teaching at the school ensure strong progress is seen in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science without affecting the time given to creative and practical subjects - students enjoy the breadth of experiences.

We are a leading member of Kent and Medway Training and along with over 20 other schools train up to 100 new teachers each year.  We lead the Medway Valley Partnership of training schools, over 15 teachers are trained every year at Thomas Aveling, many of whom are then employed within Thomas Aveling or the wider trust.

We have a vibrant, inclusive and successful sixth form of 180 students with many young people joining Thomas Aveling at 16 from local secondary schools. We offer advanced courses in both Academic and Vocational courses and have a good track record in enabling students to access Further and Higher Education.

We are delighted to have been designated a Good School by Ofsted in June 2016 achieving good grades in all categories, with Personal Development being rated Outstanding.
