There have been many events this year in the form of Secondary School Games competitions (Run by Greenacre) and through Medway Sports Fixtures. Thomas Aveling students from Year 7 – 11 have been fantastic in their efforts for the school and have represented us very well.
Our first success came in the Year 8 girls indoor rowing in which we placed 2nd in Kent! The girls were unlucky not to clinch first place and only missed out by a few points (1 metre to be exact)! The girls deserve so much praise as they achieved this with only a month of preparation and practice – having only a small amount of rowing practice as a collective until this point.
Kaliyah Young (Year 11) has been making herself known this year – winning gold in the 200m sprint, silver in 60m sprint and silver in Long Jump at the the Indoor National Championships. She has also earned her way into English Schools Athletics and managed to break yet another 200m record at this year’s District Athletics event at Medway Park. Kaliyah is a fantastic athlete and we have high hopes for her in the future!
Our next success came in the Year 8 girls Table Tennis, 4 girls were entered into the regional competition in which they came 1st – this road led them onto the National finals in Leicester in which they came 2nd overall. This is a fantastic accomplishment for Thomas Aveling – highlighting the progress being made in the world of sports. A huge well done from all of us in the Thomas Aveling PE Department for showing the nation just how good you are.
Thomas Aveling boys have not gone without success however – the Year 10 boys were the winners of the Medway Championship Football League, beating Brompton, Greenacre, St. John Fisher, Victory and Robert Napier along the way. The Year 9 boys went a step further and managed to finish as the champions of the Year 9 Premiership Football League, beating schools Rainham Mark, Howard and Greenacre along the way. Well done to all boys involved in representing the Thomas Aveling Football teams!
