Debating Matters Competition 2019

Mr Morgan accompanied eight year 12 students in the Debating Matters regional final in Mid-Kent College on Wednesday.

This was effectively the semi-final which the school did outstandingly well to qualify for. These students are a part of Mr Morgan’s debate club which was recently set up with the intention of competing against other schools nationally. The students debated against other schools in Kent on matters such as the green belt, fake news and autonomous vehicles. They all performed exceptionally, making clear arguments and rebutting the other schools’ points. Overall Thomas Aveling performed very well when the points were tallied up with no debate being unanimously decided either way. An individual prize was awarded to Max who was given an honourable mention by an individual judge on his excellent performances throughout the day. It was a fantastic experience which will help our students compete in more debating competitions in the future.
