Thomas Aveling’s Bake Off Competition
Students and staff recently took part in the annual Thomas Aveling Bake Off Competition. This year was another closely contested competition with entrants demonstrating excellent baking skills and the ability to work as a team under time constraints.
6 teams took part and during the 1st round Technical challenge they each had to produce 6 identical chocolate dipped Viennese fingers and 6 identical brandy snap filled cigars. The Deputy Head Teachers Mr Preston and Miss Archer excelled at this challenge winning by 4 marks beating the Resolute team into 2nd place.
The show stopper Challenge theme this year was Easter and despite having to move the event due to snow disruption the teams produced a veritable feast of Easter inspired products.
Mrs Mawn said ‘I am sure the extra time gave some of the team's greater chance to hone their skills and ideas. With the cakes nudging ahead beating teams that went for the savoury option!’
The overall winners were Mrs Voice and Kirsty from Cavalier House, 2nd place went to Ms Mckee and Chelsey from Victory House, 3rd place was Mrs Dacey and Jessica from Resolute House. Mrs Mawn extended her special thanks to Mr Jackson and Mrs Clarke for their excellent judging skills.
