Youngsters Just Can’t Stop The Beat!

Pupils at Rochester’s Thomas Aveling School performed a show stopping production of the famous musical, Hairspray to parents, friends, staff and governors during the last week of term (Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th March) after 6 months of preparations!

Hairspray the musical revolves around Tracy Turnblad whose one desire is to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When her dream comes true she decides to use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a racially divided TV network... all without denting her hair-do!
The scenery, set and costumes were all designed by students and staff with Edna’s costume being specially created. Year 7 and 8 students were given a masterclass in lighting and were in charge of the lighting board and sound on the night.
Jenny Mash, Head of Dance and Drama, said: ‘The hall was alive with the sound of the 60s, with music accompanied by our fabulous orchestra, great sound and lighting with fantastic high energy singing & dancing from our incredibly talented cast. Special thanks must go to Mrs Voice, Miss Bates-Glover and Mrs Reed for their hard work and support into putting on this fast paced fantastic show.’
