Thomas Aveling Mock General Election 2017

Students at Thomas Aveling have cast their votes in our Mock Election, held in our very own Polling Station (the library) this week.

Over the past few weeks, in form time, students have been debating and researching the views, opinions and manifestos of the five main parties as well as watching the party political broadcasts and a range of the television debates.

It has been great to hear students discussing who to vote for and to see many students feel somewhat tentative before making their final decision, much like the rest of the country.

Our student turnout was extremely high (especially considering the busy time of year with external exams underway) at 66.9% which is higher than the UK's turnout to the 2015 General Election at a mere 66.1%.

The results have been counted and there was no hung parliament here at Thomas Aveling!

1st - Labour 43%

2nd - Conservatives and UKIP both at 16%

4th - Green Party 15%

5th - Liberal Democrats 4%

*Spoiled votes 6%
