Fundraising for Charlie and his family
Staff and Students benefited from an inspired choice of fundraising by Charlie and his form (RHAV) this week.
Charlie’s dad is very ill, and fundraising is to ensure that as a family, they get to enjoy special time and activities together.
Mrs Bigwood and Mrs Parry, Charlie’s form tutor came up with the idea to sell ice lollies at break and lunchtime to raise as much as possible to support Charlie and his family, and it was fortuitous that the sale took place on the two hottest days of the year so far!
The fundraising was a huge success with students and indeed staff alike, raising just short of £200 and it was lovely to see Charlie’s sister Jade, a former student, who returned to Thomas Aveling to collect the cheque with her brother.
Mrs Parry says “I was really impressed with many of our tutor group, they volunteered to give up their break and lunchtimes to help sell the ice-creams and everyone did their bit to advertise the sale, making posters, and even a promotional video that was shared with all the students during form time. We sold ice poles, strawberry splits, Rockets, Calypsos and Fabs; with the Fab lollies selling out by far the quickest. The English department even pre-orded 101 lollies for their Year 11 students to enjoy during their final English lesson on Thursday before their GCSE exam! In the end we ran out of lollies but students were still wanting to help so carried on donating money. “
