BBC School News Report Day
Thomas Aveling Students took part in The BBC School News Report Day yesterday, Thursday 16th March 2017.
Preparation started back in November and the students who volunteered to take part have been attending weekly meetings to plan for the event. They were lucky enough during the planning stages to receive helpful advice from the BBC presenter and journalist Bryony Mackenzie. The students decided to produce two reports on Mental Health and young people, which at the moment is a school-wide focus. The year 7 and 8 students worked closely with the SAFE ambassadors and the sixth form students to produce some extremely delicate reports.
Mrs Wybourn and Miss Smith from the English department who helped organise the event said, ‘We are extremely proud of the students who took part. The students were dedicated to the project from day one and their hard work is evident in the reports produced! Mental Health was a difficult topic to investigate but the students demonstrated a professional and mature approach to both reports. It was lovely to see the students working closely with each other and staff. During the actual report day it felt like everyone in school had been involved in some way which was a great feeling! We are very proud of the results and look forward to taking part in 2018!’
