Since October 2016 year 7 & 8 pupils have been taking part in an access initiative called The Scholars Programme run by the educational charity, The Brilliant Club.
The Scholars Programme is delivered by a PhD Tutor and involves two trips to highly selective universities and four in-school tutorials. The tutorials follow a super-curricular course designed to push the pupils to develop the academic skills they will need to secure places at highly selective universities. In this case students studied Agency and Paternalism.
Pupils finished their course by producing an assignment which was then marked using criteria from the Key Stage above their current level. They are then given a university-style grade (1st, 2.1 etc.) and feedback from their tutor to allow them to reflect on and improve their performance.
The pupils attended the University of Sussex together with their parents/carers on Saturday 4th February to attend their graduation ceremony.
