In English we aim to develop your expertise in reading, writing, speaking and listening by:

• encouraging you to read widely, willingly and independently so that you see reading as a pleasurable means of learning about the world you live in
• helping you to develop your written skills in a variety of forms and for a range of audiences, as well as improving your spelling, grammar and choice of words
• helping you to speak more confidently and fluently in a variety of situations
• enabling you to learn how to listen with sensitivity and understanding

We will also give you opportunities to crossover into the related subjects of Drama and Media Studies as part of the courses you take.

We aim to prepare you for exam success but also for success in the work place after you have left school, where you will need to be able to communicate every day by reading, writing, speaking and listening.
