Technology College Status

As a Technology College we aim to enrich the learning experience our students have and raise attainment in all subjects of the curriculum. Our specialist subjects as a Technology College are Design & Technology, Mathematics and Science. In addition, we are developing links with the community around us including, Primary and Secondary Schools, Higher Education establishments, organisations and companies.

In our first phase as a Technology College we built the Learning Resources Centre which now acts as a Community Library in conjunction with Medway Council. We also created a recording studio in Music, a modern gym with a range of fitness machines and a 6th Form Science lab. Perhaps our biggest achievement is our use of ICT which has been made possible through increased access to desktops, laptops, tablet PCs, Interactive Whiteboards and Projectors. Ofsted recently reported our ICT facilities and use in the curriculum as "outstanding". We have tried to ensure that our Technology College status not only enhances the specialist subjects (Design & Technology, Mathematics and Science), but that technology of all types can help enhance the curriculum as a whole.

In 2005 we received confirmation of the second phase of our Technology College status. In this phase we have already developed stronger links with our community partners, including whole families, Scouts and Guides and other schools. In the summer of 2006 we created a product design studio called "Studio 21" which is being used to enhance the use of computer aided design and computer aided manufacture (CAD CAM) in the curriculum. As part of this redevelopment we now have a laser cutter and large CNC router that will help us to ensure that students understand not only how to produce hand crafted products, but also how computers are used in industry to produce high quality products.
