Students Win “Headlight” School Competition!

Four Year 9 students from The Thomas Aveling School were in for a treat after winning the Headlight School Competition organised by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) on behalf of the Jaguar Land Rover Company.
Callum Brown, Jack Dalton, Kalan Thomas and Sam Woods beat off stiff competition from 69 teams nationwide to win this prestigious competition. The boys were rewarded with a visit to the Jaguar Land Rover motor factory in Castle Bromwich, and after taken to Birmingham, they were each presented with a Certificate and treated to a sit-down lunch served by their own waiter, but the highlight of the day was a 4X4 Land Rover experience over rough terrain, hanging onto their seatbelts as their vehicle negotiated obstacles on two and three wheels!

In order to win the competition and grab the judges’ attention at the Land Rover Jaguar Academy in Leamington, Warwickshire, the four boys had to design a new motor car brand with green technology and come up with an appropriate marketing campaign. As part of their coursework, they used mobile phone technology to create a short television and radio advert, in addition to creating a magazine advert and mini-business plan.
