Work Training

If you do not want to go into further education, there are opportunities for people going into the workplace. With over 1 million young people presently out of work, students need to make the most of any training opportunities - especially if they are free or they can get paid to do them!

Apprenticeships are jobs with high-quality training, during which time young people aged 16-24, are paid a wage. The job they train to do is theirs to keep after their training is complete. Training can take between 1 and 5 years, depending on the type of apprenticeship, though most are around two years. Some employers require minimum entry qualifications (e.g. C grades in GCSE Maths and English), whilst others will ask applicants to show ability through a hands-on task.

Work-Based Learningsupports young people in getting the right skills to move successfully into the world of work. If you have completed compulsory education and you don't want to move into 6th form or college, you don't yet have the qualifications to get a full apprenticeship or have missed the deadline to apply, Work-Based Learning could be for you!

Work-Based Learning offers young people to learn on the job, whilst getting paid around £95 per week plus free training! Many training providers that offer work-based learning call these Apprenticeships, though this is not strictly true. Work-Based Learning apprenticeships do not guarantee you fulltime work after you complete the training, BUT it gives you the same level of training as an apprenticeship.
