Art and Design

We are surrounded by images objects and artefacts. Artists, designers and craftspeople will have been involved in the design or production of these.

Art and Design offers students the opportunity to be creative and make their own visual statements. It develops the student's ability to make judgements about their own and others' works of art.

Students in all key stages will:

  1. Research ideas:- observational drawings, photographs, investigating artists/designers work, working from the imagination.
  2. Use a range of media and techniques:- painting and drawing, printmaking, textiles and work in 3D media.
  3. Develop skills of analysis:- Understanding and articulating ideas about their own work and that of other artists and designers.

Visits to local and national museums and galleries, plus the chance to meet and work alongside practising artists are all part of the unique Art and Design experience offered at the Thomas Aveling School.
